Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 20, 2026
Trio Screen Studio ("we", "our", "the app") is a free screen, window, region and camera recording application for Windows, distributed through the Microsoft Store. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, stores and shares. We designed the app to be privacy-friendly: it collects no personal data automatically and sends nothing to us without your explicit action.
1 Screen Content and Recordings
The app records your screen, selected window, region or camera only when you start a recording. Recordings are written directly to a folder you choose on your device and remain there. We do not upload, transmit, analyze or view your recordings. No recording content is sent to us or to any third party automatically.
2 Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following data locally on your device, in the application data folder (%APPDATA%\obs-studio):
- Settings and preferences (e.g. capture options, output folder, theme choice);
- Scene collections, profiles and the material library you build inside the app;
- Session logs used to diagnose problems, and crash reports generated in the event of an unexpected exit.
This data never leaves your device automatically. We do not collect, sync or store any of it on our servers.
3 Information We Do Not Collect
The app does not include advertising, analytics or telemetry SDKs. Specifically:
- No usage analytics or statistics are collected;
- No crash dumps or logs are uploaded (crash reports stay local);
- No account is required to use the app;
- The app does not perform in-app updates or contact update servers — updates are delivered exclusively through the Microsoft Store.
4 Website Analytics and Advertising
This policy page and our website use Google AdSense to display ads and Google Analytics to understand site usage. When you visit the website:
- Google may set cookies and use information about your visits to show ads that are more relevant to you, including interest-based advertising;
- Google Analytics collects anonymized usage statistics (pages viewed, device type, approximate region);
- You can opt out of personalised ads at Google's Ads Settings, and learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps.
Please note: this section applies only to our website. The Trio Screen Studio application itself contains no advertising and no analytics (see Section 3).
5 Third-Party Services (only when you use them)
The app connects to third-party services only when you explicitly sign in or enable them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these services, and we encourage you to review their policies:
- Streaming platforms (Twitch, YouTube and Restream): if you sign in to live stream, authentication and stream data are processed by those platforms under their own privacy policies;
- Browser Source: the built-in browser component loads only the web pages or URLs that you configure; those pages may set cookies or collect data under their own policies;
- Local WebSocket server: the app can expose a local control interface on
your machine (default
localhostonly). It is disabled unless you enable it and configure a password; - Donation link: the About dialog links to Ko-fi for voluntary donations. Donations are processed by Ko-fi under its own privacy policy.
6 App Distribution and Updates
The app is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft may process information related to your purchase, downloads and ratings under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. The "Review" link in the app opens the Store review page for the app.
7 Children's Privacy
The app is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8 Data Security
Because the app stores data locally and transmits nothing automatically, the main security consideration is the protection of your device. Recordings and settings are stored with the standard file permissions of your Windows user account. If you choose to stream or share recordings, you are in control of what is published and to whom.
9 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
