Overview
Effective date: July 13, 2026Mail Open is a unified desktop inbox for email, messaging, social, and AI services. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information Mail Open handles, how it is stored, and your rights.
Information We Do Not Collect
Mail Open does not collect any of the following:
- Your email messages, chat history, or social media content
- Your login credentials or passwords in plaintext
- Your contacts, calendars, or files
- Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry
- Advertising identifiers or tracking data
Data Stored Locally
All data is stored on your device in the following locations:
- Application configuration: %AppData%\MailOpen\config.json
- IMAP / account passwords: encrypted with Windows DPAPI and stored inside the local config file
- WebView session data: stored in isolated local profile directories for each account
- Notification sound: if customized, only the file path is saved
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to back it up yourself.
How We Protect Your Credentials
IMAP and other account passwords are encrypted using the Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI). The encrypted values can only be decrypted on the same Windows user account and device where they were created.
If you enable the optional app lock, your PIN is hashed with SHA-256 and stored locally. We do not store your PIN in plaintext.
Third-Party Services
Mail Open uses embedded WebViews to display the third-party services you choose to add (such as Gmail, Outlook, Telegram, etc.). When you sign in to those services, you interact directly with their websites under their own privacy policies and terms of service.
- We do not intermediate or proxy your traffic to these services.
- Cookies, tokens, and session data from these services are managed by the WebView and stored locally.
- Each provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle your data.
Microsoft Store
Mail Open is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft may collect installation, update, and crash telemetry according to its own privacy policy. This is outside our control and not collected by Mail Open itself.
Notifications
If you enable desktop notifications, Mail Open checks unread counts locally in the background. Notification content is generated by the WebView and delivered through the Windows notification system. No notification data is sent to us.
Advertising
Mail Open itself does not display ads or include ad trackers. The online tutorial page may include third-party advertisements served through Google AdSense when viewed in a web browser. Those ads are governed by Google's privacy policy.
Your Rights and Choices
You have full control over your data:
- You can add, remove, or modify accounts at any time.
- You can disable notifications, badges, or auto-start in Settings.
- You can clear all local data using the "Clear Data" option in Settings, or by deleting the %AppData%\MailOpen folder.
- Uninstalling Mail Open removes the application and its local data.
Children's Privacy
Mail Open is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision. Continued use of Mail Open after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
